Last friday, July the 7th, I visited The Next Web Conference.
A couple of hundred online professionals enjoying a day full of presentations, start-up stories and other Next Web Stuff. It almost felt like the seventies: it's all about sharing, be social, internet for everybody and be good to friends. Wow, what a world.
Ofcourse people think back to 'yesterday' and think is today the same? Are we in the middle of a new bubble 2.o? Michael Arrington (Techcrunch) used a great slide with the differences between 'yesterday' and 'today'. A couple of the differences he mentioned that have to do with the financial side:
Yesterday: Spend millions to launch
Today: Spend thousands to launch
Yesterday: IPO for billions
Today: Sell for millions
Yesterday: Bankruptcy / Layoffs
Today: Repeat
Yesterday: Arrogance
Today: Slightly less arrogance
I walked around with my 'fast talk handycam' and asked just one question: What's your definition of The Next Web?
